National Candle Association Shares Top Fragrance Trends for Summer 2024

Citrus, lavender and tea tree are just a few scents leading for home fragrances.

Citrus scents are a fresh idea for summertime home fragrance.

Temperatures heat up in the summer and as a result, trash cans and other home odors become stronger and can travel farther.

One easy way to keep your house fresh is to incorporate candles throughout your home.

Here are the scents that assist in odor elimination according to the National Candle Association (NCA):

Citrus Scents

Lemon, Orange, Bergamot and other citrus scents are great at eliminating odors due to their strength. These scents are known to cut through strong odors, overpowering them for a pleasant, invigorating one instead.

Eucalyptus

A refreshing scent, Eucalyptus neutralizes odors easily especially those that take on a musty character.

Lavender

This calming floral scent helps mask odors and fights lingering smells.

Tea Tree

This herbal scent often has a strong throw and will effectively neutralize unpleasant odors.

Cinnamon

A spicy and warm scent, Cinnamon often overtakes a room with ease. Place this in spaces that are in need of extra help—or hang on for them til autumn as a transitional fragrance.

Editor’s Choice

Personally, I go with citrus or lavender for my home fragrances all year. These scent profiles are neutral and can energize or relax, pending on the circumstances.
